  16. 1. What is Adr_Book?

  19.   Adr_Book is a database program that prints mailing labels, an address
  20.   booklet, envelopes, and several reports. Adr_Book also functions as
  21.   a phone dialer program. This is a windows 32 bit applications
  22.   designed for Windows95. 
  23.  
  24.   The mailing labels can be printed to meet postal requirements for best
  25.   bulk mail rates: zip code order and postal bar-code. All major Avery
  26.   standard and A4 label sizes are supported. Font, point size, color
  27.   selections.

  29.   The envelopes can be printed in all popular sizes. The postal bar-code
  30.   can be printed. Different fonts, point sizes, and color can be specified 
  31.   for the return address and delivery address.

  33.   The address booklet can be printed in multiple dimensions ranging from
  34.   5.5" x 4.25" to 4.0" x 2.75".  This is very convenient for producing
  35.   booklets of your business contacts, but is also great for organizations,
  36.   clubs, and churches. The address booklet can also be printed in color.

  38.   The phone dialing works like most others, but I like to believe it is more
  39.   enjoyable and easier to use.

  41.   The design philosophy of Adr_Book was to make it intuitive and fun to use.
  42.   I think you will find this to be true. However, don't let this fool you
  43.   into believing Adr_Book is a simple and limited product. It has many 
  44.   features that can be used for more advanced use.

  46. 2. What is new since 4.0?
  47. -------------------------
  48.   a. A greater number of Avery Label sizes are now supported. Postal
  49.      bar-codes can be printed on labels. Font point size selection.
  50.      Font color selection.

  52.   b. A greater number of standard envelope sizes are now supported. Exact
  53.      alignment of return address and delivery address can be specifed. 
  54.      Multiple envelopes can now be printed. Font color selection.

  56.   c. Passwords can be assigned to the database files.

  58.   d. The font used on the graphical address book can be selected.

  61. 3. INSTALLATION
  62. ----------------

  64.   Floppy Install:
  65.   To perform the installation insert the floppy in drive A or B. Run 
  66.   Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel.
  67.  
  68.   ZIP file Install:
  69.   If you have downloaded a ZIP, or self extracting archive from an online
  70.   service you will need to unpack the files to a temporary directory. Run
  71.   Add/Remove Programs for the Control Panel. Use Browse to locate the
  72.   Setup program.

  74.   The Setup program properly installs Adr_Book for Windows into the
  75.   Windows 95 Registry.  This allows you to use the Unistall feature to
  76.   remove all traces of the program. This will not remove any database
  77.   files that you might create.

  92. 5. Why Register?

  95.   The shareware version of Adr_Book is limit to only 40 records in a single
  96.   database file.  The registered version removes this limitation. A
  97.   registered version can hold over 10000 records in an indiviual database file.

  99.   You will be entitled to one year of free upgrades.

  101.   You will feel better. (maybe) Actually, I really believe this is true.

  109.   The above two lines were in the 1.0 release of Adr_Book. It has been a
  110.   fairly successful product and I actually have been able to take Alberta
  111.   out for a couple of very nice evenings. Thank you for your registrations.

  113.   So how do you get a regsitered version 4.0 (32 Bit)? Simple:

  116.      Send $24.95 plus $2.00 shipping and handling ($5 for international

  124.      Email. This is my favorite method of registration. By this method I
  125.      will simply email you the latest registered version. This has a couple
  126.      of advantages. First there is no shipping and handling cost. The entire
  127.      cost to you is $24.95.  Second, I am assured that you have received the
  128.      product. (I am always concerned about the postal mail. You send a
  129.      check, I send a disk, I cash the check, you don't receive the disk. Yuck!)

  134.      You can also order using VISA and Mastercard. Just be sure to include
  135.      the card number, the name as written on the card, and the expiration date.

  138.      From Europe I am sorry to say I can not cash Eurocheques, as banks here
  139.      want to charge me $35 for handling.

  160. One feature of Adr_Book not clearly stated anywhere concerns configuration
  161. information associated with a database file. Items such , how labels are to 
  162. be offset for printing, what fields should be displayed in the graphical 
  163. address book, etc. are part of the configuration stored with each 
  164. database file.
  165.  
  166. Almost all items that you set will be stored when you perform a save of your
  167. file. If you make a change to a record in your database, Adr_Book will ask
  168. you when you exit if you want to save this change. This is not true if you
  169. make a configuration change only. Remember, if you make a configuration
  170. item change, and you want it to be a permanent change, SAVE your database
  171. file.
